Default Superior Salvage kit

Why on earth is the superior salvage kit more expensive than the expert salvage kit. Yes I know.. you get one hundred charges. But it costs 2k.

The expert salvage kit costs 400g and comes with 25 charges.
25 charges x 4 = 100 charges
400g x 4 = 1,600g

The idea of buying in bulk is that it's generally less expensive. I can't see why anyone in this game would want to waste 400g getting the superior salvage kit. Change the price please.

BTW - everything else is GRRRRRREEEAAAT. Well done A-Net.

Because it doesn't take up 3 extra inventory slots.

Simply the price you pay for convienience. If you don't want to pay the extra, you can keep buying the 25 charge items. For myself I just bought 1 and plan to swap it back and forth between all my characters.

Well I wouldn't pay 400g to have an extra 3 slots in my inventory of about 50 slots. I guess it's a reason but not a good enough one IMO. nvr mind heh.

it's a gold sink...they were hoping nobody would notice, or that nobody would care about the extra money. The extra 400 gold puts a damper on material farming in that it defeats the purpose.

Some people would. That's why you still have the option to buy just an expert. To me, it's no big deal, it saves me the trouble of having to keep buying kits. I'm not one to pinch gp, so I don't mind at all.

I won't ever buy those superior kits because I don't need them. There are hardly any areas where you accumulate items in numbers beyond your storage capacity. I can imagine UW-trips of 3-4 hours, yeah maybe you've got to salvage something to make way for new things. But in every other area, the drops are not so plenty as to clog your inventory so much that you'd need the extra-space of those kits. At 1600 gold, I would buy them, but I won't pay a single gold piece more, as I've always been fine with the existing kits.

Default Imho...

...the new kits are a godsend. Those of you that don't see the logic behind the new super-sized kits are probably the same people that buy your crafting supplies at three to five times the tagged value.
I have never have never had to purchase any common materials to craft armor & have made a lot of my income from selling my excess salvaged materials. And since it seems that ,at least for the time being, drops in the new zones are mod/rune heavy, the slots cleared up by only having to carry one of each kit is more than worth the additional cost.

Waste not, want not. Ya know.

you have 50 slots on your character. Let's say you use the last 10 slots for materials(that stack) and the first 3 slots for an ID Kit a Regular Salvage Kit and an Expert Salvage Kit....You have 37 open slots for drops + 26 Open Slots (given you completely use the salvage kit) + 27 Open Slots (given you completely use the expert salvage kit)...so I know have 37 Slots for drops +26 +27..which means I can pick up 90 drops before the superior kit is even needed.....seems unlikely I'd ever need a Superior Salvage...and more likely that it is a gold sink used because ArenaNet knows the vast majority of players aren't smart enough to figure out how useless it is.

Is there any purpose to superior salvage kits except for the amount of uses tied to them?

i think you are forgetting that in an extended farming run, if/when you ID something and salvage it, you may get a common material which stacks, so you may actually pick up more than the amount of spaces you have, simply because some got thrown together.

i didnt bother to actually look at the numbers, but is it overall cheaper or the same to buy X salavge kits as opposed to 1 superior kit (but with the same number of uses?)

also i suspect we will see someone in tombs named 'superior salvage kit' now

no.

only the convenience of having 100 charges instead of 25 per kit.

look at it this way
i get 4 expert salvage kits and as i use them up a slot becomes available

when i hit 25 charges i am exactly even with the person who bought the superior kit in that we both have 1 slot taken up by a salvage kit.

on the other hand i am 400 gold richer

I presonally like the Sup kits. I always seem to run out of room on big trips and find that at times I have to salvage things that I really didn't want to salvage just for the space.

possibly i am but if you use up the 25 use expert kits you dont have it taking up the space.

example i get 2 expert kits and use one up 3/4 of the way through the run and then continue with the second expert kit.

both the superior and expert kit take up 1 slot by the time i get back to sell off.

the only difference is i spent 16/salvage with the expert and 20/ salvage with the superior with no space penalty for using the expert kit.

i did have to click twice to purchase them though instead of once

Mhm I noticed that aswel. Usually you'll find about 1-2 purple items maybe a gold one, when you run trough a map.. now that's doubled to say the least.
